Choosing the right colour PVC floor: 5 practical tips

The colour of your floor largely determines the atmosphere in a room. And now you are faced with an important decision. Are you going for dark and sturdy? Light and fresh? Or perhaps a shade in between? Use the 5 tips from this blog to choose the colour floor that suits your interior and living space.

Tip 1. Make sure there is a color difference with your furniture

Many interior stylists agree: a clear color difference between your furniture and floor creates a beautiful, natural effect. In concrete terms, this means that your floor should be at least two shades lighter or darker than the color of your furniture. Of course, this remains a matter of taste and in some living spaces it is very beautiful to deviate from this guideline. Although in that case it is advisable to add accessories in a different color to your interior, to prevent it from becoming boring and monotonous.

Tip 2. Match your floor to the walls and ceiling

Where many people tend to choose a floor colour based on the furniture, the walls and ceiling also have a great influence on the appearance of a space. For example, combining light furniture with a dark coloured floor is very beautiful. But if you also have dark walls and a dark ceiling, it quickly becomes a 'dark room'.

The guidelines you can follow here:

  • Combine light-coloured walls with a slightly darker floor ; this will create a nice contrast and prevent the room from feeling 'cold'.
  • Dark colored walls are best combined with a floor that is somewhat lighter . This prevents it from becoming a dark, uninviting space.
  • Are your walls not super light but also not extremely dark? Then make sure that your floor is at least a few shades lighter or darker than your walls. This prevents the space from feeling 'shapeless'.

Tip 3. Choose a light floor for a small space

Is the space in question relatively small? Then it can be nice to combine a light floor with lighter walls and/or light furniture. With this color combination you make a space look bigger and more spacious, although this also largely depends on the laying direction of your floor.

Be careful not to overdo it in using light colours. For example, if you choose a very light floor and combine it with pure white walls and a white ceiling, it will quickly become cold. Try to find a good balance here and finish your interior with accessories that are darker in colour.

Tip 4. Create a cool look with a grey concrete look floor

Do you want to choose a floor colour that is different from the standard? And do you have an industrial or modern interior? Then you could aim for a grey concrete look floor . This type of floor has a tough appearance, but at the same time also exudes luxury.

In principle, you can combine a grey floor with many colours. But to prevent your living space from becoming too tough, cold and distant, we recommend keeping the rest of your interior a bit 'softer'. For example, choose furniture and accessories made of soft fabrics and/or give your walls a warm colour.

Tip 5. Choose a dark floor if you like industrial

Choosing a dark floor may be a bit daring. But with the right combination of furniture, accessories and wall colours you can create a very cool, unique effect. A dark floor really comes into its own in an industrial interior.

For example, you can combine a dark floor beautifully with:

  • Somewhat lighter walls and a light ceiling. Don't go for white here; in that case the contrast will be too big.
  • Furniture and accessories made of warm materials. Think of rattan, reed and wood.
  • Furniture and accessories made of metal and leather. Such as metal lamps, metal table legs, a leather sofa or leather cushions.
